Description:Renown jewel thief known as the Major (George Sanders) travels to Cairo to rob the museum of King Tut's jewels. He is joined by Willy, a safe-cracker who has married and gone straight, Ali, a gunman whose goal in life is to return to his family's farm, a driver, and a financial backer. They make a deal with a fence, a wealthy Egyptian who "knows people." The robbery goes off without a hitch until the explosion that opens the safe sets off alarms in the neighborhood. A policeman arrives, and in his struggle with Ali, Willy is shot. The Major and Ali go to see the fence, who brings his own gunman and tries to take the jewels by force. Ali shoots him, but not before being wounded himself. The Major and Ali hole up with a prostitute friend of Ali's. She arranges for the Major to be taken out of the country on a boat, but he gets caught when he can't tear himself away from watching a belly dancer. Ali and his prostitute friend make a break for the farm, but Ali's wound is infected, and he dies moments after arriving. The drive and financial backer are also caught and thrown in to prison. The police arrest the fence, but he gets a gun and kills himself. All of the bad things are supposedly due to the curse of Tut.

Review - Cairo

Rather dry. I found myself rooting for Ali, but he had no redeeming qualities. George Sanders, who was dull at best, was very dull here, and the scenes where he stared at dancing girls were creepy. The movie proved, I suppose, that crime doesn't pay, but it never explained how the police got on to the thieves—they just have a omniscience, omnipresence that was probably insisted upon by the Egyptian government if the movie was to be shot in Cairo.
