Review - Love on the Run
It would have been better if it wasn't played so much for laughs. It was all pretty slapstick.

| Description: | Rival reporters Michael Anthony (Clark Gable) and Barnabus Pells (Franchot Tone) flip a coin to decide which story to cover. Pells gets the Baron and Baroness who are showing off a new airplane. Michael is stuck with Sally Parker (Joan Crawford), an heiress about to marry a Duke. But when Michael gets to the church, he meets Sally running away. She just discovered the Duke only wanted her for her money. Michael follows and promises to get her away from all the reporters--although he really just wants the story for himself. To escape the crowds, Michael steals the Baron's airplane. He discovers that the Baron is really a spy trying to take a map of military defenses to the enemy. While Michael and Sally try to get away, they're chased by Pells and by the Baron and Baroness. All of them keep catching up with each other, and outwitting and double-crossing each other. Michael and Sally fall in love--even after he confesses that he's a reporter. In the end, Michael gets the story and Sally, and the Baron and Baroness get caught. In the end, Michael allows Pells to get a byline. |
