Description:Steve Farrell (Randolph Scott) travels around the west selling Colt pistols to sheriffs. When a thug named Brett (Zachary Scott) escapes, he grabs two Colts and begins a robbing and killing spree. Farrell is jailed because the sheriff thinks he's in on it. By the time he gets out, Brett has gathered a gang and holed up at the mine worked by Paul Donovan (Lloyd Bridges), who joins the gang, and his wife Beth (Ruth Roman), who doesn't know her husband has gone bad. Farrell determines to go after Brett. There's a bunch of nonsense where the two takes turns getting the better of each other. There's also a tribe of Indians who hang around to bail Farrell out of trouble now and again. When Beth finds out her husband is part of the gang, she leaves him and tries to warn the town. Paul shoots her (a wound that is soon forgotten about by the makers of the movie). Brett takes his gang to town and convinces the extraordinarily stupid townsfolk that Farrell leads the gang -- even after the gang takes over the town. The Brett kills Paul. Then there's a showdown in which Farrell kills Brett, after which Ruth runs into Farrell's arms and tells him how afraid she was for him -- even though there's been no romance or reason for them to fall in love.

Review - Colt .45

So stupid that I actually laughed out loud in places. It's like the director was making it up as he went along and periodically forgot the plot. For a B western, it had quite a few names -- Randolph Scott, Ruth Roman, Lloyd Bridges, Alan Hale. But the guy who played Brett, Zachary Scott, was one of the worst actors I've ever seen on film. With a sneer on his face and a snarl in his voice, he bugged his eyes out and yelled at everyone. He had no leadership or charisma, just a pair of magical guns.
