Description:Doctor Harcourt (Frank Powell) and his wife (Florence Lawrence) live in the country with their young daughter. When the daughter gets sick, the doctor cares for her. Then a poor neighbor's child also gets sick. Her mother sends for the doctor, who is reluctant to leave his own child. Duty calls, however, and he goes and saves the poor girl (with some sort of surgery/blood-letting apparently). Meanwhile, his wife sends their maid to tell the doctor his own daughter is at the crisis point. The doctor delays until he saves the poor girl, then arrives home too late to save his own daughter.

Reviews for The Country Doctor

Review - Country Doctor, The

Slow-moving, melodramatic, over-acted, but I had to remind myself that this was 1909 and they didn't have sound to tell the tale. Florence Lawrence (what a name) is often billed as the first movie star because she was the first actor to have her name used to promote a movie. Here, she did little beside display concern and grief next to her daughter's bad.
