Reviews for Hero
Review - Hero
Excellent as a satire on how media can make or break a person's reputation in an instant. Otherwise, just a fun, interesting story to watch.

| Description: | Thief Bernie LaPlante (Dustin Hoffman) is waiting sentencing on his latest conviction. Out on bail, he witnesses a plane crash and, against his convictions, goes to help. He manages to get the plane door open, allowing the passengers to escape. He also goes on the plane and carries three injured people out, including Gale Gayley (Geena Davis) crack TV reporter. During the rescue, Bernie steals Gale's purse, so, instead of sticking around, he disappears. In the chaos, he lost a shoe. He gives his remaining shoe to John Bubber (Andy Garcia). Gale's TV station finds Bernie's missing shoe and offers a reward for the owner. Bubber steps forward, claims the reward, and becomes a hero. Bernie is arrested for selling Gale's credit cards. By the time he gets out on the street, Bubber is the talk of the nation. But he's feeling guilty for taking credit he doesn't deserve. He decides to jump off a building. Gale follows a police tip and finds Bernie. She thinks he's blackmailing Bubber, so she drags Bernie to the building. Bernie climbs out on the ledge with Bubber and makes a deal. Bubber will continue playing the hero in return for putting Bernie's son through college and paying off his legal fees. Gale figures everything out and, off the record, thanks Bernie for saving her. |
