Description:Based, very loosely, on a real unit. Major William Darby (James Garner) picks and trains an American unit that fights like British commandos. They are sent to North Africa, Sicily, and Italy, where the unit is defeated by a much larger German tank army at Anzio. The survivors are disbanded. The story covers several of the men who get involved, in one way or another, with British and Italian girls.

Review - Darby's Rangers

Two-dimensional characters, unreal action scenes, trite romances. It just made for a long, rather dull movie. It was Garner's first leading role, but he had very little to do here.
