Description:Two cowboys, Ross Bodine (William Holden) and Frank Post (Ryan O'Neal) work for rancher Walter Buckman (Karl Malden). Tired of the life, Ross and Frank decide to rob to local bank and head to Mexico. The hold the banker's wife hostage until he gives them the money, then take off. Buckman, upset that two of his men stole his money from the bank, sends his two sons (Tom Skerritt and Joe Don Baker) after them to bring them back. There's a lot of shots of people riding horses. Ross and Frank come to a town and decide to live it up. Frank joins a poker game that goes wrong and gets shot in the leg. The leg gets infected, and he soon dies. Ross rides on until the sons catch up with him and shoot him. Meanwhile, in a scene from another movie, Buckman is killed in a quarrel with sheep herders. One of his sons (quite possibly insane it seems) determines to bring Ross's body back to the ranch -- from Arizona to Montana. By horse.

Review - Wild Rovers

The basic plot would have been OK if it hadn't been cluttered up with goofy side plots about sheep herders, mountain lions, a puppy ...Mostly it was just long and full of slow-motion deaths and -- really -- somersaults. It ends with one son riding home while the other sits by Ross's body in the desert and cries.
