Description:Special Force 6, compiled from volunteers from the American and British armies, is sent to Normandy a few hours ahead of the main landing to clear a German gun emplacement. The force is led by British Lt. Col. John Wynter (Richard Todd), a veteran who has seen a lot of action. Also on board is American Capt. Brad Parker (Robert Taylor). Both men reminisce about their relationship with a British woman. But it's the same woman -- Valerie Russell (Dana Wynter). John is actually her fiance, but has been away for almost the entire war. Brad meets her when he works in planning in London. Brad and Valerie begin a friendship that soon develops into a romantic affair -- complete with holidays off together. Brad happens to be married, but he eventually decides he has to be with Valerie. But then John comes home, injured. He finds about Brad, but forgives Valerie when she goes to him to take care of him. He's better by the time of D-Day, of course. Valerie tells Brad that she's going to marry John. They attack, and both men perform heroically and are injured. They have a moment on the beach where they wish each other luck. Brad is then shipped back to England. John, for some reason, wanders off into a minefield (that he had been warned about) and blows himself up. In England, Valerie goes to see Brad in hospital and he, not knowing that John is dead, tells her she was right and that he's going home to his wife. Valerie doesn't say anything, and the movie ends with her walking off without either of her men.

Review - D-Day the Sixth of June

Not perfect. Brad would have been a more sympathetic character if he wasn't married. And there was no reason in the story why he needed to be except to give him a reason to leave Valerie at the end. Robert Taylor was too old for his part (he was 45 to Dana Wynter's 25), especially for a special mission. Dana Wynter was lovely, and I doubt she stayed manless for long.
