Description:A famous jewel is stolen in New York, and the evidence points to famous thief Arsene Lupin, long thought dead. The jewel is discovered to be a fake -- the real one is back in Paris. The jewel is owned by Count de Grissac, who returns to France with his niece, Lorraine (Virginia Bruce). Insurance investigator Steve Emerson (Warren Williams) goes along, suspecting that Lupin will make another try. Rene Farrand (Melvyn Douglas), fiance of Lorraine, unknown to everyone, is Lupin, now retired. He steals the real jewel, but then returns it, to lure the imposter Lupin to try to steal it. Rene and Steve set up a trap and catch the fake Lupin, a friend of the Count. Steve confronts Rene as being the real Lupin but agrees to keep it a secret. Rene marries Lorraine.

Review - Arsene Lupin Returns

I wasn't really following all the twists in the plot, in part because it was complicated and in part because i was falling asleep. Douglas and Williams were good as foes, then friends. The plot itself was typical fast-moving 1930's stuff with little character development.
