Description:During WWII, German spy Henry Faber (Donald Sutherland) is tasked with sending information back to Germany, on Patton's army, forming in northern England. Faber is known as the Needle because he uses a stiletto to kill anyone who gets in his way. Henry finds out that Patton's army is fake, a ruse created to mislead the Germans about D-Day. Scotland Yard is on to Faber and chases him into Scotland. Faber attempts to rendezvous with a German sub, but the fishing boat his steals runs aground in a storm on Storm Island. The island's only inhabitants are a drunken lighthouse keeper, David, a disabled pilot, his son, and his wife Lucy (Kate Nelligan). Lucy is sad and desperately lonely because David is angry and resentful because of his injury and refuses to touch her or even speak to her kindly. Lucy falls for Henry's charms, and they begin an affair. David figures out what's going on and also that Henry is a German spy. He confronts him, but Henry out-fights him and kills him. Lucy finds David's body, and when Henry claims to have just spoken to David, she realizes that he killed her husband. She still has to pretend to care for him, but she bides her time until she can take her son and escape to the keeper's house. There she finds him dead also. When Henry follows, she tries to shoot him, but he gets inside. She hears him talking on the radio in German and realizes what's at stake. Henry tells her that the entire war comes down to the two of them. He signals a German submarine and tries to get to a boat, but Lucy follows with a pistol and kills him.

Review - Eye of the Needle

Very suspenseful. Sutherland was diabolical and viscous as the Needle. Nelligan was great as the lonely wife who made a bad choice but had the courage to fight back.
