| Description: | Tabloid reporter Alice Kingsley (Patricia Neal) goes to Washington to dredge up dirt on Congressman Joe Gresham (Van Johnson). She talks him into letting her shadow him for a week, and in the process, they fall for each other. Joe is struggling with a ship-building bill. His Massachusetts constituents want him to vote no, but Joe thinks the bill will be good for the country. When Joe votes yes, he figures his career is over. Then he finds out that Alice works for a tabloid and figures she's going to claim he was bribed to change his vote. But instead, she quits her job for the tabloid, gets another job, and writes a positive article. Joe decides not to quit but to fight for reelection, and he and Alice end up together. |
