Description:Larry (Billy Crystal) is a frustrated writer who blames his ex-wife Margaret for stealing his novel and becoming a big star. He's reduced to teaching a writing class in evening school. One of his students, Owen (Danny DeVito) lives with his loud, demanding mother. While talking over story ideas, Larry tells Owen that, to get away with murder, he has to get rid of motive and establish an alibi. He references Hitchcock's movie Strangers on a Train. Owen gets the idea that Larry wants him to kill Margaret in exchange for Larry killing Owen's mom. Owen trails Margaret to Hawaii and pushes her off a boat. She is reported missing. When Larry finds out, he realizes he has no alibi for that night so he goes on the run. He hides out with Owen, who is still trying to get him to kill his mom. When Margaret is found safe -- rescued by a fisherman -- Larry decides to head to Mexico. Owen goes along, dragging his mom, hoping that Larry will still kill her. But when mom almost falls off the train, Larry and Owen save her. Larry writes up the entire story as a novel and has a hit on his hands.

Review - Throw Momma from the Train

Very slapstick. I actually bought DeVito in his role more than I bought Crystal in his. For whatever reason, it just seemed to slapstick for Crystal, whose comedy is more about timing that slapstick.
