Description:The Dinky Doos are a fast-failing musical variety show that tours England. Things are shaken up a bit when Miss Trant, a rich, bored spinster signs on as manager and changes the name to "the Good Companions." Also joining the troop is Inigo, a composer, who quickly falls in love with Susie Dean (Janette Scott), the young singing, dancing star of the show. She puts him off because she dreams of stardom. So, when a producer buys some of his songs, Inigo insists that he give Susie a try. The producer goes to a performance, which happens to be the night a local thug brings his gang to bust things up because Miss Trant refused to pay insurance. But the gang is so taken with Susie that they allow her to perform before busting up the theater. That's enough for the producer who hires, Susie, Inigo, and one of the dancers to perform in London in a big show.

Review - Good Companions, The

Got off to a good start as a character-driven plot about a bunch of down-on-their-luck performers sticking together. But then it became one of those ridiculous musicals with song and dance numbers on massive sets that couldn't possibly be performed in an actual theater. Janette Scott is lovely in an girl-next-door sort of way, but doesn't have the charisma to be a major show stopper.
