| Description: | Two Navy cadets, the gung-ho Bill (James Ellison) and the rebellious Clay (Van Heflin) bicker all through their training at Annapolis. This is intensified when they both fall for Julia (Marsha Hunt). Bill is torn between his love for Julia and his promise to his father to pursue his Navy career with single-mindedness. Julia meets Bill's father, and when she realizes that he's about to dump his career for her, she breaks off the relationship. Bill, against regulations, goes to Julia's room. While he's there, he's implicated in a crime committed elsewhere. He's determined to protect Julia's reputation, so he refuses to provide an alibi. Clay wants Bill to stay at the academy rather than leave and marry Julia, so he finds an alibi that clears Bill without mentioning Julia. Bill stays in the service, and Julia determines to wait five years until he can marry her. |
