| Description: | Opportunistic, fast-talking reporter Mike Reese (Dan Duryea) is kicked off a big city paper when a story he wrote is blamed for a gangland killing. He heads to suburbia and buys a half share in a local paper from Cathy Harris (Gale Storm). When the daughter-in-law of Stanton, a newspaper mogul, is found murdered, Molly, the girl's Black maid is blamed and all the big papers immediately print scathing stories against her. Molly shows up at the office to see her friend, Cathy. Mike convinces Molly to give her self up so he can get the reward. He then organizes the townsfolk in a defense of Molly to raise circulation. The real murderer is Stanton's son, so Stanton makes deals with a gangster to stop Mike. The newspaper office and press are smashed. To print his paper, Mike goes to Stanton with evidence that supports Molly and tries to get the big papers to print it. Stanton's son reports the visit to the gangster who visits Mike with threats. Mike figures out that Stanton's son must have committed the murder. He is kidnapped, beaten, and about to be killed when Cathy convinces the D.A. to raid Stanton's office. Stanton's son is killed, Stanton and the gangster are arrested, and Molly is freed. |
