Description:A voyage on a ship sailing from Hong Kong to Singapore. Captain Alan Gaskell (Clark Gable) has to deal with his volatile show-girl girlfriend Dolly (Jean Harlow); his old flame Sybil (Rosalind Russell), now widowed and come to look for him; Davids, a third mate who has lost his nerve; MacArdie (Wallace Beery) , a menagerie shipper who is in league with pirates; a shipment of gold; and a monsoon. Dolly gets jealous of Sybil and begins flirting with MacArdle. She finds out he's a pirate and tries to warn Gaskell, but he insults her and kicks her out of his cabin. She grabs the key to the arsenal and gives it MacArdle, who uses the guns to arm the crew members who are working with the pirates. The pirates come aboard, but can't find the shipment of gold, even after they torture Gaskell for it. As they leave, the injured Davids sacrifices his life by jumping on the pirate's ship with a bag of grenades. Gaskell figures out that MacArdle is a pirate, but he commits suicide before the ship reaches port. Gaskell also figures out Dolly's role and turns her over to the police. But he also realizes he loves her. He says goodbye to Sybil and dedicates himself to getting Dolly free from the charge so he can marry her.

Review - China Seas

An exciting movie with a lot going on. Harlow was excellent as Dolly, the tramp who wants to be loved. Gable is good as the gruff but kind captain. Robert Benchley is along as a drunk who never knows what's going on.
