Description:Shortly after the Americans took over California from the Spanish, a deadline was set for Spanish land owners to register their property or lose it. Senor Castaneres has a huge ranch that is coveted by his neighbor, Gonzales. The Army sends Captain John Homes (John Wayne) to encourage Castanares to register. Gonzales does everything he can to prevent this so he can take over the land. When Holmes arrives and convinces Castaneres to register, Gonzales takes more drastic measures, kidnapping the Castanares' daughter Dolores (Ruth Hall) to marry his son. Holmes saves the day by working with a group of American mercenaries to rescue the Castanares and save their land. He also ends up with Dolores.

Review - Man from Monterey, The

This one was BAD. The plot made no sense. Wayne hadn't figured out acting yet. The others were even worse, saying the ridiculous dialogue like eighth-graders in a school play. Near the end, there's even a sword fight in which Wayne holds off seven or eight bad guys all swinging their swords like they're waving off a swarm of gnats.
