Description:Addie is a woman that all men are attracted to and all wives are jealous of. Three other women receive a letter from her stating that she's leaving town and taking one of their husbands with her. The three women all spend the day wondering if it's her husband that's gone. They think over events in their marriage that might give them clues. Deborah (Jeanne Crain) is a country girl who is intimidated by the lifestyle and friends of her rich husband Brad (Jeffrey Lynn). Rita (Ann Sothern) writes for a radio show and makes good money. Her husband George (Kirk Douglas) is a poorly paid, educated schoolteacher who resent his wife's career. And Lora Mae (Linda Darnell) is a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who married the older Porter (Paul Douglas). Their marriage is stormy because he thinks she married him for his money and she thinks he married her for sex. At the end of the day, Rita goes home to find George waiting for her. She keeps her job but decides to stop working on weekends and dedicate them to her marriage. Lora Mae goes home to an empty house, but Porter walks in a few minutes later. Deborah gets a note from Brad that he's not coming home that night. She assumes he went off with Addie, but she goes to the party at the club anyway. She finally snaps and tells everyone that her husband has run off, but Porter grabs her and tells her Brad didn't leave. It was him (Porter) who ran off with Addie, but came back because he realized he loved Lora Mae. She, in turn, realizes she loves him (and doesn't seem at all upset that he spent the day with another woman), and all is cheery with all three wives.

Review - A Letter to Three Wives

Interesting and well-acted with a good cast. But I get annoyed with movies about dysfunctional marriages. Having a good marriage myself, I forget that others argue and bicker all the time.
