Description:British Major Stringer (Jose Ferrer) and Captain Thompson (Trevor Howard) pick eight Marines to join them on a kayak raid on the Nazi-held port of Bordeaux, which is located several miles up a river out of range of the British Navy. One kayak tips over at sea, and the Marines are caught when the land. Two are discovered by the German Navy, who kills the Marines. Two make it to Bordeaux and attach mines to cargo ships. One of these is captured. Stringer and one Marine escape on a French fishing boat and make it back to England. Thompson and the other three captured Marines are shot. It's based on the true Operation Frankton, which managed to sink two ships, not the 10 or 12 that blow up in the movie.

Review - Cockleshell Heroes, The

Not totally without interest, but not with a lot of life either. None of the men are fleshed out enough to be interesting, and the whole venture seems poorly planned.
