Description:Scientists Michael (Christopher Walken) and Lillian (Louise Fletcher) develop a devise that will records what the brain experiences — sights, tastes, sensations. Another person can tap into the record and experience the same things. Michael's ability to see into the mind of Karen (Natalie Wood), helps him put their marriage back together. But Alex (Cliff Robertson), head of the lab, turns the project over to the military (for some nefarious purpose I was never very clear about). Then Lillian has a heart attack and records her death. Michael is locked out of the project, and the military goes into mass production. But with Karen's help, Michael taps into the lab and destroys it while also playing Lillian's tape and experiencing death.

Review - Brainstorm

So much of the is movie made no sense. For one thing, the tapes of peoples minds, which would always be first person, were often third person. Second, what the military was planning on doing with the process was never explained. I guess Michael wanted to experience death and come back because he would be the pioneer of that, but ... for me the recording of what death is like just seemed silly. Natalie Wood actually drowned during the making of the movie and some of her scenes were shot with a stand in and others cobbled together from earlier out-takes. Walken never works for me when he's playing a sane character — his acting is so strange he should stick to the insane.
