Not classic cinema, but I generally like Denzel and the story kept me watching.

| Description: | Xavier Quinn (Denzel Washington), island-born, spends three years in the Marines, trains with the FBI, and returns to the island be become chief of police. When a man is murdered, evidence points to Maubee (Robert Townsend), Quinn's childhood friend and a local legend. Top brass keeps telling Quinn to back off, but he's unwilling to arrest his friend without investigating first. Then Miller (M. Emmet Walsh) shows up and begins trailing Quinn. A paid assassin arrives but is soon found dead. While all this is going on, Quinn is trying to patch things up with his wife, who accuses him of not being the man she married. Quinn figures out that the first murdered guy was bitten by a snake. The U.S. government sent a lot of money to the island to fund a revolution, but when things didn't go as expected, they sent Miller to get the money back. But when Maubee happened upon the man (already dead), he took the money. In the end, Miller dies in a helicopter crash (when another snake bites the pilot). The money is destroyed. Maubee falls in the ocean and may, or may not, have survived. |
