Review - Criminal Court
Pretty unlikely plot, but the dialogue was pretty good and the actors all did a good job in their roles.

| Description: | Steve Barnes (Tom Conway) is a hotshot lawyer running or district attorney. He's not particularly happy that his girlfriend Georgia (Martha O'Driscoll) is a singer at gangster Vic Wright's nightclub. Steve gets some photos the show Wright's men bribing government officials and promises to give them to the press. Wright calls Steve to his office and threatens him if he doesn't destroy the photos. Steve refuses, and Wright pulls a gun. In the ensuing struggle, the gun goes off and Wright is killed. Steve leaves unseen, but Georgia happens into the office to talk about a contract and finds the gun and body. She's arrested for the murder. Steve explains what really happened, but nobody will believe him and Georgia is put on trial. Wright's men, still attempting to get the photos back, inform Steve that there was an eyewitness to his version of events. Steve figures out that the witness is Joan, his own secretary, who was also working for Wright. He traps her on the witness stand into relating what she saw. Georgia is acquitted. Joan's testimony also absolves Steve of blame and tidily results in the arrest of Wright's entire gang. |
