Description:Aspiring writer Ruth (Rosalind Russell) and her aspiring actress sister Eileen (Janet Blair) move from Ohio to Manhattan and rent a basement apartment while they try to find work. The movie is about the many eccentric characters that are constantly arriving in the apartment uninvited. But while all this chaos is going on, Ruth gains the attention of Robert (Brian Aherne), editor for a major literary magazine. Against the wishes of his boss, he prints one of Ruth's stories. It's a big hit, and the publisher offers Ruth a contract. She signs, on the condition that he connects Eileen with someone in the theater.

Review - My Sister Eileen

Blair was shrill and ditzy as the supposedly irresistible Eileen, but Russell was great as Ruth. Her facial expressions carried the movie. There were a ton of sub-plots going on, one of which was the subway begin constructed under the apartment. At the end of the movie, just as the sisters renew their lease, workers drill up through the floor. Three men climb into the room, and it's the Three Stooges (who had nothing to do with the movie in any other way).
