Description:Unbeknownst to his wife Rita (Brenda Marshall), investment counselor Francis Warren (Errol Flynn) moonlights as detective mystery writer Pettijohn. Police Inspector Mason (Alan Hale) lets Warren (as Pettijohn) hang around the station to get ideas for stories. When Fissue, a man who wants to hire Warren to invest diamonds is found dead, Warren insists it's a murder and investigates. His search leads him to night club singer Blondie White, and Warren pretends to date her to find out what's going on. This leads Rita and her mother to suspect Warren of cheating. Warren is getting close to the answers when Blondie is also found dead. He figures out that her partner in crime—and murderer—is the dentist (Ralph Bellamy) who lives downstairs. He goes to the dentist, pretending to be a patient. The dentist tries to kill him, but the police come and arrest him. Rita forgives Warren for lying to her, and even joins him on future cases.

Review - Footsteps in the Dark

Played for laughs. Flynn was lively, as were most of the other cast members, but the story wasn't very funny. It was originally intended to be the first in a series, but it flopped, so no more were made.
