Review - If I'm Lucky
Satire on political corruption combined with a musical. Weird. The songs were forgettable, even though several of them were repeated several times.

| Description: | A band (really Harry James, who appears as the conductor) led by Wally Jones (Phil Silvers) is looking for work and latches on to a political campaign for gubernatorial candidate Magonnagle. The band makes Magonnagle so popular that he forgets he's just a tool for the machine and begins taking his campaign seriously. The crooks behind the campaign ditch him and appoint Allen Clark (Perry Como), lead singer for the band. He goes along with it because it's the only way for the band to keep getting paid. He soon becomes popular however, and is predicted to win the election. He goes to the bosses and tells them he wants out, but they threaten to expose him as one of them and get the band blacklisted. He decides to go along with the bosses until his girl Linda (Vivian Blaine), and another band singer, leaves him. On the night before the election, Allen tells all on a radio show, exposing the crooks. He's elected, but without the machine, and the band get a spot on a major radio show. |
