Description:Story of five New Yorkers on Christmas Eve. Nina (Penelope Cruz) is engaged to cop Mike (Paul Walker), but he's jealous and has a bad temper, so she's considering breaking it off. Rose (Susan Sarandon) is a lonely 40-year-old woman who spends her time with her dementia-patient mother in the hospital, trying to connect. She's also drawn to the man across the hall who never moves and never has visitors. Mike meets Artie (Alan Arkin) who tries to convince Mike that he's the reincarnation of Artie's wife. Mike finds out that Artie was also jealous and killed a man who he thought was messing with his wife. His wife fled in a car and died in an accident, and he's just looking for forgiveness. Mike forgives him, then goes back to Nina and tells her he's changed and she gives him another chance. Rose contemplates suicide but is stopped by an ex-priest who tells her she needs to move on. She finds out he's actually the old patient across the hall from her mother. And then her mother's doctor asks her out.

This movie tried hard to be touching and meaningful, but just managed to be creepy—old guy telling young guy he's the reincarnation of his wife—old guy in a hospital bed wandering around as a younger version of himself rescuing women—girl forgiving her jealous violent fiance just because he says, one more time, to give him one more chance.
