Description:Conservative college music professor Donald Hardwick (Dick Powell) writes a piece of music and goes to New York to find a publisher. At his aunt's house, he meets lyric writer Linda (Gale Page), who takes a liking to him. She takes his classical piece, turns it into a swing song, writes lyrics and creates a hit. Donald decides he likes the idea — and even more he likes Zelda (Ann Sheridan), the singer who popularizes the song. To the disgust of his other aunts, all conservative, Donald decides to stay in New York. He and Linda soon come up with several more hits. For a payoff, Zelda tricks Donald into signing a contract with another publisher. Upset by being tricked, Donald refuses to write any new music, but when another lyricist hears him play a classical piece, he writes lyrics and gets it published. Donald is soon being sued for plagiarism and appears in court. Things don't look good when his conservative aunts show up and prove that the song he "plagiarized" was itself plagiarized from an earlier song written long before and is now in the public domain. Donald's case is dismissed. He and Linda fall in love. Ronald Reagan is along in a small role as the original publisher.

Review - Naughty but Nice

Harmless. Sheridan was lovely, but she had a small part. She was given top billing because right after the movie was made but before it was released, she became famous as the "Oomf" Girl.
