Description:Philip Hannon (Van Johnson) is an American playwright in London who has recently gone blind and is bitter about it. In a pub, he overhears a conversation that he's sure is a plot to commit a crime. He informs the police, but they aren't convince, so he decides to solve the mystery himself. With the help of his butler, Bob (Cecil Parker) and ex-fiancee Jean (Vera Miles) he investigates. He is lead to the conclusion that the child of a rich person arriving on the Queen Mary is going to be kidnapped. The kidnapping occurs, but because of Philip's discoveries, the child is quickly recovered and most of the gang is captured. Philip believes the ringleader will come after him, so he sends Jean away, turns off all the lights, and confronts the person trying to kill him in the dark. It turns out to be a woman, whom he throws off his balcony to her death. All of this somehow makes him want to get back together with Jean.

Review - 23 Pacesto Baker Street

The premise was good — a blind man using his other senses to solve a crime. But Philip's character was extremely unlikable and his insistence on investigating alone, which repeatedly got him into trouble and danger, was just stupid. Use your skills, sure, but know your limitations. Also, it dragged much of the time.
