Description:Showman Harry Van (Clark Gable) meets Irene (Norma Shearer), an acrobat, while performing in Omaha. They get to chatting and have a fling before going their separate ways. Years later, Harry is touring Europe with a group of showgirls when WWII breaks out. They are stranded in a hotel with other travelers, among whom are arms dealer Weber (Edward Arnold) and his mistress (also Shearer), now calling herself Irena. Harry is convinced he recognizes her, but for a long time, she won't admit it. When the travelers are allowed to leave, Irene is abandoned by Weber because she criticized his arms dealing. Harry makes sure his girls get across the border, then returns for Irene. The two endure a bombing before heading back to America to go into show business together.

Review - Idiot's Delight

Weird movie that spends a lot of time with various people pontificating on life and war while Gable looks around whimsically. There's not much action and no character development. Shearer, apparently mimicking Garbo, plays her character so over-the-top that it's impossible to like her or understand why Harry or anyone else would.
