Funny, clever movie, well acted, with the lovely Janette Scott along as a bonus.

| Description: | Henry Palfrey (Ian Carmichael) is a loser who allows other people to push him around and take advantage of him in every area of life. He meets April Smith (Janette Scott) and immediately falls for her, but when he takes her out to dinner, his much-smoother acquaintance Raymond (Terry-Thomas) moves in and impresses the girl — even managing to drive her home. Day after day, Henry is upstaged, so he decides to take a course in "Livemanship" taught by Potter (Alastair Sim). He soon learns the ploys and schemes that allow him to one-up other people. He begins by taking the junker car he paid way too much for back to the dealership that sold it to him and conning them into giving him a new car and a wad of cash. He then embarrasses Raymond on the tennis court in front of April and drives her home in his new car. He uses the tricks he learned from Potter to get her into his bathrobe and into his bedroom. The next step is to take her to bed, but he thinks better of it and stops. Just then Raymond bursts in with Potter and tells April all about the tricks Henry has been using. But when she realizes the tricks were working — but he stopped anyway — they confess their love for each other, to the dismay of Raymond (who loses the girl) and Potter (because Henry won with sincerity and not tricks). |
