Description:Racketeer Lucky Wilson (Robert Montgomery) is wanted by police detective Mac MacCarthy (Edward Arnold) for running a protection racket. Injured in a shoot-out with the cops, Lucky flees to Connecticut until he passes out on the side of the road. Taken in by the Miller family on their farm, Lucky just wants to leave — until he meets Pauline (Maureen O'Sullvan), the Millers' daughter. At first he tries making moves on her, but before long his feelings become genuine. He chips in and helps on the farm. Things get so serious between him and Pauline that he decides to give himself up and serve his time. But Mac shows up with another cop. They have to stay around the farm until the rain stops and the road is clear, and while spending time with the family, Mac realizes Lucky has changed. Lucky confesses to Pauline, and she says she still loves him and wants him to return after he gets out of prison. Micky Rooney (who I normally can't stand) did a good job here as the Millers' young son.

Review - Hide-Out

I almost gave up on this one but I'm glad I didn't. Montgomery did a great job as a sleaze who slowly changes his way under the influence of a good family and a good girl. O'Sullivan was perfect as the simple farm girl falling in love for the first time. The ending, with Lucky and Mac actually acting like friends was touching. Remade as I'll Wait for You in 1941 with Robert Stirling and Marsha Hunt.
