Description:After the Civil War, Missouri residents are divided into North and South camps, and barn-burnings and retaliation are a regular occurrence. Henry Carson (Van Johnson) latches on to the MacBean family. Father Gill is adamant that he doesn't want any Yankees around, but when Henry pitches in and helps around the farm, he agrees to let him stay. Henry's chief focus is Lissy (Janet Leigh), Gill's daughter. Things are going swimmingly until to Henry is forced to admit he was a Yankee. Lissy runs off to be with Henry, and Gill follows to stop him, but four masked men arrive to burn Henry's barn. He kills three of them and captures the other one — turns out they were Yankee sympathizers, and Henry is now the local hero. Gill is still reluctant to give in until Henry reveals that Gill's son, Ben, and he were best friends during the war — on the Union side. Gill gives in and allows Lissy to marry Henry.

Review - Romance of Rosy Ridge, The

A bit trite, and I think a tougher-acting actor than Van Johnson would have been better in the role, but for the time, not bad. Leigh was lovely in her first role.
