Description:On the eve of his deployment as a Marine, Luke (Nicholas Galitzine) marries Cassie (Sofia Carson). They don't like each other, but Cassie is a diabetic musician without insurance and Luke owes a loan shark $15,000, so marriage is the only way they can both survive. Luke goes to Iraq and is injured. He has to move in with Cassie, and they have to depend on each other. They fall in love, but before they can admit it to each other, the loan shark breaks into Cassie's mother's house. When Luke beats him up, he goes to the Marines and tells about the fake marriage. Rather then allow Cassie to be charged, Luke takes the full blame and is sentenced to six months. Cassie realizes there marriage has, in fact, become real, so she goes to see him just before he's incarcerated and tells him she'll wait for him.

Review - Purple Hearts

I get why the Marines frown on fraudulent marriages, but is it fraudulent if the two people actually behave like married people, take care of each other, and fall in love? And would they take the word of a loan shark over the evidence of a real marriage? Sofia Carson sings several songs, and while I like her as an actress, I can't stand her as a singer. Maybe I'd feel differently if I could actually understand any of the words.
