| Description: | Nerdy Gary Johnson (Glen Powell) is a college philosophy teacher who moonlights as a surveillance technician for the police. When Jasper, an undercover cop who pretends to be a killer-for-hire is put on suspension, Gary is suddenly forced to take his place. He is surprisingly effective — acting as Ron, a tough guy he's never been in real life. One day he meets Madison (Adria Arjona), who wants her abusive husband killed. Attracted to her, Gary talks her out of the kill and into leaving her husband. Gary and Madison begin an affair. All goes well until they meet Madison's husband outside a nightclub. Gary has to pull a gun on him to get him to go away, and the next thing he knows, the husband is trying to hire Ron (Gary) to kill Madison and her boyfriend. Then the husband shot to death and Madison, because of an insurance policy, is the chief suspect—and she confesses to Gary that she, in fact, did it. Gary manages to convince the police she's not the killer. But Jasper, back from suspension, isn't buying it. He hangs out at Madison's until Gary shows up, then demands the insurance money not to tell. Madison puts drugs in his beer, which causes him to pass out, and Gary suffocates him and hides the body. They get away with both murders and get married. |
