Review - Escape from Fort Bravo
Good characters made for a good movie. There were some scenes that didn't make a lot of sense, but I enjoyed it.

| Description: | Capt. Roper (William Holden) serves at remote Fort Bravo in New Mexico during the Civil War. The fort serves as a prison for Confederate soldiers. Roper has a reputation as a hard guy who always hunts down and returns any escaping prisoners. A stagecoach arrives carrying Carla (Eleanor Parker), ostensibly there to attend the wedding of a friend, but really to arrange an escape for her fiance, Confederate Capt. Marsh (John Forsythe). To distract Roper, Carla plays up to him, and he's soon smitten. Carla finds herself falling for him too, so when Marsh escapes with three other prisoners, she goes with them. Roper and two others follow and catch up. Returning to the fort, Indians attack and surround them. Roper and the Confederates have to work together to fight them off. One Confederate, considered a coward, takes off on the lone horse. Two others (played by William Campbell and William Demarest) sacrifice themselves to save the others. Finally only four are left. Marsh and Lt. Beecher (Richard Anderson) are injured. Roper does what he can to make the injured men and Clara look dead, then goes out alone to make the Indians think he's the only survivor. He's injured, but before they can kill him, the Confederate they thought was a coward returns with a platoon from the fort and rescues them. Marsh dies. Roper and Carla end up together. |
