| Description: | Also known as A Girl for Joe Sgt. Pete Peterson (William Holden) is a tough platoon leader in Italy during WWII. He meets WAC Eleanor (Nancy Olson) and falls for her. At first, she puts him off because she'd already lost one love in the war, but she's drawn to him. The profess their love, but this has an effect on Pete when he goes back to the front. He plays it safe, gets injured, and is convinced he is responsible for the death of a friend. Eleanor finds him in the hospital. They get married and have a short honeymoon on an Italian farm. Pete is reassigned to a non-combat role, but he knows he wouldn't be able to live with himself, so he goes back to the front. He's injured again, and taken captive, but when Rome falls to the Allies, Eleanor searches for him and finds him, on crutches, but OK. |
