Pretty much a study in over-acting, complete with way too much screaming. But it was fine to watch once.

| Description: | Eagle Rock, Iowa has fallen on hard times. When Merwin Wren, a P.R. man for big tobacco, comes up with an idea to offer $25 million to any town that gives up smoking for 30 days, Rev. Brooks (Dick Van Dyke) convinces everyone in town to go along. During the 30 days, the townspeople deal with anger, frustration, over-eating, and crowds — people come from all over the country to see the excitement. Wren makes a last-ditch effort to make the town lose by setting the courthouse clock ahead 15 minutes and dumping cigarettes on the gathering of people, but it doesn't work. Brooks, Wren, and the doctor (who had the hardest time not smoking) are all wounded by a pistol that everyone thinks is a lighter. The President shows up and grants the town a new missile assembly plant — that envelops the entire town in smoke. |
