Description:Jimmy (Robert Taylor) is in love with novelist Mary (Joan Crawford), but Mary is in love with her married publisher, Rogers (Herbert Marshall). Mary is writing a book about a mistress of a married man, and in the final chapter, she has her heroine confront the man's wife and explain her love for the husband. Jimmy decides to fight for Mary, and when he meets Clare (Greer Garson), Rogers' wife, he comes up with a plan. He knows Mary and Rogers are spending a weekend at the country home of Bridget (Spring Byington), so he brings Clare there, claiming she's his cousin. Mary and Clare hit if off and begin discussing Mary's novel. Clare soon realizes that Mary is having an affair with her husband, but Mary is still in the dark — until Rogers walks in and sees Clare. It all comes out with the result that Clare decides she wants nothing more to do with Rogers (although Jimmy convinces him to keep trying). Mary is angry with Jimmy, but in the end realizes how much he loves her and kisses him.

Review - When Ladies Meet

I didn't really like the movie. It was about infidelity, after all, although Jimmy's character was one I could root for. The actors were all excellent except for Marshall who was very dull and unconvincing as a ladies' man. The real star of the movie was the old mill that had been turned into the country house — with all sorts of exposed beams, wooden floors, nooks and crannies. It was beautiful, although it would be a great place to break a leg.
