Description:American Eve Peabody (Claudette Colbert) arrives in Paris without money or luggage, hoping to catch on somewhere as a singer. She meets taxi driver Tibor Czerny (Don Ameche), who takes pity on her and agrees to drive her to different clubs. During the night, he falls in love with her. Eve doesn't want this, so she ditches the cab and ends up in soiree where she meets Jacque, who begins pursuing her. She pretends to be Baroness Czerny. Georges (John Barrymore) is on to her, but he helps her because his wife Helene (Mary Astor) is having an affair with Jacque and he hopes Eve can break it up. Meanwhile, Tibor gets all the cabbies in Paris to look for Eve. She's tracked down at Georges' estate. Helene figures out she's a fraud and is about to expose her when Tibor walks in claiming to be the Baron Czerny. There's all sorts of silliness, and in the end, Eve decides to marry Jacque. But to marry him, she has to divorce Tibor (even though they aren't married). In court, Tibor acts crazy, and in French law, it's illegal to divorce someone with mental problems. By this time, Eve realizes how much Tibor loves her and they take off to get married for readl. Helene, seeing how fickle Jacques is, reconciles with Georges.

Review - Midnight

Started out good, with Ameche and Colbert hitting it off well. It got better when Barrymore, as Georges, began helping Eve get away with pretending to be a countess. The character of Jacques, however, was just annoying and the last half hour was screwball indeed. Even though I watch a lot of these movies, I'm always annoyed at how quickly people fall in love that we're supposed to believe will last for a lifetime. In this case, Eve and Tibor got married after knowing each other for about five hours tops.
