Description:Based on a true story. Earl Stone (Clint Eastwood), 90-years old, has spent his life traveling and working, totally neglecting his family to the point that none of them except his granddaughter Ginny will speak to him. When his nursery business goes under, he has nowhere to turn. He takes a job as a driver and makes enough money to pay for Ginny's wedding. He takes another job and pays off the foreclosure fee on his farm. Before long, he realizes he's transporting drugs, but he doesn't stop because he's using the money to buy things for people he cares about. The cartel appreciates his work and lets him do things his own way — stopping at favorite restaurants, trying new routes. Meanwhile, D.E.A. agent Colin Bates (Bradley Cooper) is tracking the drugs coming into Chicago. The head of the cartel gets knocked off, and the new guys let Earl know they won't put up with anything. But when Earl finds out his ex-wife is dying, he disappears and goes to see her. By doing so, he reconnects with his daughter Iris (Alison Eastwood) and the rest of the family. He's out of touch for a week, and when he resurfaces, the cartel goons catch him and beat him up. But when the find out he was at his wife's funeral, they let him complete the trip. But by now, Bates is on to him and catches him. At his trial, Earl pleads guilty and is put in prison. Iris and Ginny promise to visit him as often as they're allowed.

Reviews for The Mule

Review - Mule, The

It would have been sweet except that Earl knowingly transported huge amounts of drugs that destroyed lives, so I couldn't root for him. But it's based on an actual guy, so I guess the movie just told the real story.
