Description:June (Loretta Young) is the famous writer of a book on the advantages of being a single woman. In a hurry to get to a meeting with her publisher/boyfriend John (Reginald Gardiner), June hitches a ride with doctor Tim (Ray Milland). At a stop along the road, someone accidentally attaches a "Just Married" sign to Tim's car, and it hits the paper the next day that June is married. This trashes the sale of her book, so John comes up with the idea that June write a book on marriage. To do this, however, Tim has to agree to appear to be married to her, something he doesn't want to do because he's engaged to Marilyn (Gail Patrick). But before Tim can clear things up with the newspapers, he finds out that he's been given a full professorship at his college because he's married. He agrees to act married to June until she gets her book written, after which they'll fake a divorce. Most of the movie is taken up with the silliness of trying to keep the truth from the papers, from the college staff, from family ... Of course, by the time June finishes her book, she and Tim are in love and decide to get married for real.

Review - Doctor Takes a Wife, The

All the typical screwball nonsense rampant in these kinds of films, made a little better than average by Young. Milland is good at times, but also sometimes acts like a moron.
