Description:Sandra (Barbara Stanwyck) married Jim (Richard Basehart) for money — he gave her $2,000 to finish college and she gave him the wife he needed to inherit the family money. When she hears that Jim is dead, she goes to the family estate run by Jim's uncle Mark (Errol Flynn). She meets Jim's sister, Julie (Geraldine Brooks), an unhappy girl who wants to leave but isn't allowed to. At first, Mark doesn't believe that Sandra is really Jim's wife, but papers are eventually found that prove it. Meanwhile, mysterious screams and a secret laboratory convince Sandra that Jim is still alive. When she shares her concerns with her sister-in-law, Julie becomes overwrought and jumps off a balcony to her death. Sandra goes exploring and finds a fenced compound. She climbs in and discovers Jim. She is convinced that Mark killed Julie and is going to kill Jim, so she convinces him to escape. That night, Jim goes to the house and attempts to kill Mark. Mark explains the truth — Julie and Jim both have inherited insanity. Suddenly Mark is an ally. A servant tries to grab Jim, and he falls to his death. The movie ends abruptly but it appears that Mark and Sandra go off together.

Review - Cry Wolf

This was a stupid movie — all filled with dark shadows and suspenseful music and mystery. But none of it was necessary. Mark was supposedly keeping Jim and Julie's insanity a secret because another brother was a senator and the news would ruin his political career — except that the insanity came from a different blood line and had nothing to do with Mark or the senator. And all Mark had to do was explain all this to Sandra at the beginning and Julie and Jim wouldn't have died, there wouldn't have been all the suspense and sneaking around, and there wouldn't have been a bad movie.
