| Description: | Alan (Joseph Cotten) agrees to write love letters for his friend Roger. Roger's girl, Victoria (Jennifer Jones) writes back and Alan falls in love with her sight unseen. When he returns to England, he finds out that Roger has been murdered by his wife, Victoria. Alan goes to a party and meets Singleton, a beautiful girl with amnesia. Suspicious, he confronts Singleton's friend and discovers that Singleton is Victoria. He marries her, hoping that she regains her memory and forgives him for pretending to be Roger. The truth comes out when Victoria's adopted mother confesses that she killed Roger and then had a stroke, which made her unable to defend Victoria. Victoria completely regains her memory and forgives Alan. (Roger was beating Victoria because she kept rereading the letters and he realizes she loved the letter-writer and not him.) |
