Description:Terry O'Neill (William Powell) returns home from WWI to discover his newspaper job is no longer available. Broke, he crashes a wedding to meet a stockbroker and meets Kay (Esther Williams). The two immediately hit it off, and Terry gets a job at her father's newspaper. But he soon leaves that job and Kay to take a job with the stockbroker. Ten years later, he's a millionaire. Kay shows up but realizes that Terry loves money more than her. Terry's old hoodlum acquaintances hit him up for money. On a lark, he convinces them to put their trust in Saint Dismas, and they are soon flourishing. The stock market crashes, and Terry is destitute. He gets another newspaper job, then finds out his old cronies have set up a fake charity. When he can't talk them out of it, he actually turns to Dismas himself and soon all is well. Kay finally marries him.

Review - Hoodlum Saint, The

The plot makes huge jumps, but I didn't care that I didn't have to watch the entire story because it was dull and silly. Powell was 30 years older than Williams, and their relationship made no sense. And there's the nonsense about the praying to Dismas, the thief on the cross.
