| Description: | Story of the performing Donahue family: father Terry (Dan Dailey), mother Molly (Ethel Merman), sons Tim (Donald O'Connor) and Steve (Johnnie Ray) and daughter Katy (Mitzi Gaynor). The perform on vaudeville between the wars, then break up when son Steve decides to become a priest (because "actor" Johnnie Ray, who was a popular singer, couldn't dance or act). Tim and Katy leave the family act to join a show featuring Vicky Parker (Marilyn Monroe). When Tim thinks Vicky is having an affair with a producer, he gets drunk and misses a show. Terry confronts him and they argue. Tim disappears. At the end of the movie, Molly is putting on a performance at a benefit when Tim shows up, having joined the Navy. The family is together for the first time in years and performs, with Vicky joining them on stage. |
