Description:Enigmatic southerner Owen Pentecost (Robert Stack) rides into Denver on the eve of the Civil War when townsfolk are taking sides. Two women, storekeeper Ann (Virginia Mayo), and barroom entertainer Boston (Ruth Roman) both fall in love with Owen. The Confederates try to convince him to join them, but he claims he's only out for himself. When the war starts, the Union men form a unit to keep the Confederates from reaching the states with a load of gold. Owen joins the Confederates and comes up with a plan to get the gold away. He's captured by a Union officer who is also his chief rival for Ann. When Owen convinces him that he loves Boston, the officer lets him go. Meanwhile, Boston is killed by a bar owner (Raymond Burr), upset that he can't have her.

Review - Great Day in the Morning

Mayo and Roman were both scenic, but the movie didn't reach me. Stack's character was too ambiguous, the Confederates were portrayed as the good guys, and there were too many subplots.
