Description:Dancehall girl Tacey Cromwell (Anne Baxter) loves gambler Clint Saunders. Clint's much younger brother Nugget shows up, having run away from an abusive uncle. Clint announces his intention of moving to Colorado, so Tacey quits her job and goes along, even though Clint never promises marriage. Tacey sets up house and becomes a decent woman, taking care of Nugget and not letting Clint stay overnight. When the father of teenager Seely (Natalie Wood) dies, Tacey takes her in too and makes a family for the kids. Clint, meanwhile, has caught the eye of Judith (Julie Adams), manipulative daughter of the local bank president. She gets Clint a job at the bank and decides she'll get him as a husband too. She hires a detecive to dig into Tacey's past, then has the local judge rule that Tacey is an unfit mother when Clint is out of town. Judith becomes the kids' guardian, and Tacey goes back to her old dancehall. Clint tries to find her but can't. He marries Judith. But Seely finds out where Tacey is, and after a year of so, goes to see her. Tacey decides to take Seely back to Judith, but when Judith confronts her and demands she leave town, she also accidentally reveals that she was the one who conspired to have Tacey loose the kids. Tacey decides to take revenge by opening a dancehall in a mansion across the street from Judith's house. Clint realizes he loves Tacey. When Judith finds out he's visited Tacey, she gets mad, kicks Clint out, and begins throwing things, knocking over a lamp and then (conveniently) dying in the fire. The kids get out of the house safely, and the fire (conveniently) also destroys Tacey's new dancehall across the street. The movie ends with a strong hint that Clint, Tacey, Seely and Nugget will soon be a famiy after all.

Review - One Desire

Pure soap opera melodrama with overplayed characters and ridiculous plotting. The actor who played Clint was dull as dishwater, with nothing memorable or admirable about him. Baxter, as Tacey, did what she could with her part, but the movie was pure cheese.
