Description:Robert Maynard (Keith Andes) is a government agent looking for proof that Sir Henry Morgan is a pirate. That proof is in a logbook on the pirate ship of Edward "Blackbeard" Teach (Robert Newton). When Maynard gets aboard as the ship surgeon, he finds Edwina (Linda Darnell), daughter of a pirate, who stole Captain Morgan's treasure and is trying to get away with it. From there the movie descends into a nonsensical mess, with sword fights, treachery, buried treasure and a lot of pirate talk. In the end, Blackbeard is killed by his own men, the treasure sinks to the bottom of the sea, Morgan is made governor of Jamaica, and Maynard ends up in a small boat with Edwina.

Review - Blackbeard the Pirate

The plot made no sense. Maynard had no role — he just kept being brought along for some reason. I'm not sure what he and Edwina were planning at the end. They were in a small boat at sea without provisions and nowhere to go except back to Jamaica where Morgan had put a price on Maynard's head. Blackbeard was dead, but since at one time or another he'd betrayed pretty much everybody in the movie, it's not surprising. Morgan wasn't exposed as a pirate, which was Maynard's whole purpose. Nobody got the treasure. Very unsatisfying.
