Description:On her way through Panama to California to marry a rancher, Maggie (Carole Lombard) meets trumpet player Skid Johnson (Fred MacMurray), just released from the Army. Both are broke, so Maggie moves in with Skid and his friend Harry. Maggie convinces Skid to stop gambling and get back into performing, and he's soon a hit, with Maggie singing along to some of his numbers. They fall in love and get married. A Broadway producer offers Skid a job in New York. He goes, promising to send for Maggie as soon as he earns her fare. But he become a big star and begins gambling and carousing with his new singer Anita (Dorothy Lamour). Maggie borrows the money to sail to New York and discovers Skid in Anita's apartment. She sails to France to get a divorce, and Skid begins drinking. He soon loses his job and becomes a bum. Maggie comes through New York on her way to marry the rancher and sees what's become of Skid. She helps him get back on his feet, and they get back together.

Of course Maggie and Skid were going to end up together, but I liked Lombard's character and couldn't see why she bothered with Skid, an irresponsible, gambling, womanizing, drunk.
