| Description: | Respected Black cavalryman Braxton Rutledge (Woody Strode) is accused of raping a White girl and killing her father. Lt. Cantrell (Jeffrey Hunter) is sent out to capture Rutledge. On the way to the fort, Apache Indians attack and Rutledge, who had a chance to get away, chose to stay and save his unit. In the courtroom, Cantrell serves as Rutledge's defense. He produces evidence to show that the actual rapist was the son of a shopkeeper. The prosecutor plays the race card and is about to get Rutledge convinced when the shopkeeper speaks up and blames his son so that the innocent Rutledge won't be hung. But Cantrell sees through the story and proves the man himself committed the crime. Constance Towers played Mary Beecher, a young woman who witnessed many of the events, but was really just along to give Cantrell a love interest. |
